Picked up a 97 eclipse RS for a friend. Patterson's helped me a ton already, so I've got his expertise to tap, but I'm hoping to really get into it Friday. It's got a stalling problem; we could drive it about 5-10 miles and it'd flat die. When trying to crank it, it'd either not fire at all, sputter, or start right up. generally seemed we had to wait 5-10 minutes to get it to fire. It's had coil pack, comp, and cam sensor replaced. Has some wiring that needs cleaned up, from where they broke a connector. Going to replace fuel filter and check pressure. He was told by someone (autozone i think) that it was the "main relay" that was bad. The only thing we could figure they meant was MPI/MFI relay.
Another thing I noticed, as we were unloading it... I was able to start it up, and the check engine light was on. When it started to sputter/try to die, the light flickered. So it seems to me like it'd be electrical of some sort, either bad ground or relay failing. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Gonna start digging through the books tonight.

If anyone's bored and feels like taking a road trip, The Legion is putting on a cruise in at the fairgrounds in Fairbury, no charge, no contests, just come hang out and check out ppls cars. There are several clubs from the area that will be there, as well as a few of the cars that race at the dirt track. Food/Beer/Pop will be available as well. 12-4pm on Sunday. Any questions just let me know.

Being as I've researched tuning a ton for my Mustang, I told Patterson I'd check into the DSM Link system for him. Some of you may already know this info, but I wanted to post it for those that don't.
As with my mustang stuff, the recommended Wideband O2 sensor is the LC1. This is programmable Wideband that can be setup to emulate narrowband operations as well, so you can replace your existing HEGO/O2 sensor with it, even without running DSM Link. Wideband is a great place to start for determining tuning issues, even with just a gauge to eyeball what it's doing when you're having issues. I also questioned the guy about GM MAF capacity. They are capable of flowing enough for over 600hp no prob. If you see issues with them maxing out, you most likely have a problem with your MAF translator. MAF Translators are not necessary with the DMS Link setup. DSM Link is now USB based, so works well with most any laptop; their software looks very similar to what I use and has some autotuning capability. Any time you can get auto calcuations, so long as you know WHY it's doing what it's doing, then it's generally worth a little extra money. It's a lot easier to let the computer do the number crunching. As I hear any more info or if we dig into it more, I'll post here. |
